Rebirth in installments
02/05/2016
When barn finds from the Baillon collection were auctioned off for millions a year ago in February 2015, people wondered why so much was being paid for almost unrestorable cars. Even then, it was clear that most of them would only ever roll again if they were completely rebuilt.
We reported in our auction report at the time : "The Talbot-Lago T26 Record Cabriolet from 1948 was knocked down for 625,000 euros, the T26 Record Fackback Coupé for 350,000 euros, and the T26 from 1949, which was particularly desirable due to its engine and short Grand Sport chassis, with its breathtaking shape and epoch-making details, finally fetched 1.45 million euros."
Even back then, we wondered when the cars would turn up again. Well, now at least one of the three cars, the Talbot-Lago T26 Record Fastback Coupé from 1949 , has reappeared , fittingly at the Rétromobile (see picture above).
Obviously the restoration or rebuilding work is progressing, as the car was shown with a newly built wooden frame.
We are already looking forward to being able to report on the next progress in a year's time.
We will of course be reporting on this year's Rétromobile and the associated auctions shortly.
