Classic cars on the fool's days
02/03/2016
From tomorrow, some cities will once again be upside down day and night. On February 4 (2016), the "Dirty Thursday" marks the start of the carnival season. In many cities, such as Lucerne (Fasnacht, motto "rüüdig ond verreckt") or Cologne (Karneval), the annual state of emergency reigns. Months in advance, the days of crafting begin to prepare masks, costumes and entire floats for the street parades. With sometimes gigantic effort and enthusiasm, entire vintage cars are recreated for just three days. From Ferrari to Rolls-Royce, everything has certainly been there before.
Cars have also often made their last appearance at Fasnacht/Fastnacht in a heavily rebuilt state before being scrapped for good.
In Melbourne, it's a bit warmer at the moment and the roads are never salty, so you can drive real classic cars there (see picture above). Unfortunately, they don't have a carnival down under, but they do have a kind of costumed "Guggemusig".
