Winterthur classic car and parts market - a new start has been made
11/17/2013
Once upon a time, there was a well-established classic car and parts market in Zurich. Every November, the insiders met in Zurich-Altstetten in the VBZ workshops, exhibited classic cars, sold parts and cultivated camaraderie. Then a new location had to be found and, after a year's break, they wanted to continue the tradition in Winterthur. However, the year-long break and the new premises with less ambience took their toll. Neither suppliers nor visitors were satisfied, and some of the latter stayed away anyway, partly because they had barely heard that the OTM was taking place again. Not a fairy tale, but still a story with a happy ending for the time being ...
... because in 2013 a fresh team tried to make a new start. They worked hard, looked for new partners and communicated actively. But the exhibitors did not make it easy for the new organizers. Many, especially those offering entire vehicles, stayed away from the event, one of the reasons for this was probably the extensive safety and fire protection regulations, which made it difficult to set up cars.
Nevertheless, over 60 exhibitors presented their offerings on around 3000 square meters on 16 and 17 November 2013. Parts/accessories dealers and sellers of written material (brochures, manuals, books) or model cars made up the majority of the stands.
The three Alfa Romeo Montreal cars in the rear corner of the hall were certainly a highlight. It is rare to see this rare sports car in a pack.
Thanks to the dry weather, many classic cars were parked in front of the hall (on Saturday), ranging from the Ford A, Lotus Elan, Citroën 2 CV and Bentley to the Renault R4.
It was a well-organized show, but it was a new beginning.
Now we can only hope that the new organizers will not be demotivated and that next year, with even more vigour and initiative, they will enable this traditional event to survive ...
