Sebastian Vettel at the wheel of the Shelby Cobra 427
11/18/2013
Sebastian Vettel not only had the best car in the US Grand Prix with his RB9, he was also assigned an absolute highlight at the Driver's Parade. He was to be chauffeured around the track in a 427 Cobra. Seb arrived at the appointment and, as usual, climbed into the hottest car in the parade on the passenger side.
But this time he suddenly didn't just want to be chauffeured, he really wanted to drive himself. He said to the driver something like: "Come on, for once you can wave to the fans, because I really have to drive this thing myself."
No owner of a Cobra, no matter how valuable, would deny a four-time F1 world champion this wish.
The seats were swapped immediately. As long as historic cars are used in the F1 driver parade, this has never happened before! For the first time in history, a driver was not chauffeur-driven, but turned the steering wheel himself.
Sebastian now shares his great enthusiasm for Carroll Shelby's fast car with me.
