Classic pearls of the future - VW Beetle RSI
11/19/2013
In 1999, a study based on the New Beetle was shown in Detroit. The quasi-racing car was wider, but above all much faster. From 2001, the New Beetle RSI was also available to buy, exactly 250 of them.
Technically, the car is closely related to the racing cars that compete against each other in the Beetle Cup. But the RSI was built for the road. The 3.2-liter V6 engine delivers 225 hp to the all-wheel drive via six manual gears. Inside, there are two round instruments in front of the driver enthroned in carbon fiber seat shells and additional displays in the center console. The car was also given the wide fenders and impressive rear wing of the Cup Beetle.
The Beetle RSI cost an astronomical DM 135,930 12 years ago, it completed the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in a not at all Beetle-like 6.7 seconds and had a top speed of 225 km/h. The sound of the V6 was impressive. The sound of the V6 was impressive. The magazine "Auto Motor und Sport" wrote in its report: "Evil people are known to have no songs, but the evil Beetle sings. When you press the start button located between the seats, the V6 rattles away, saws, hums and then, depending on the engine speed, mills its way irresistibly into the ears and hearts of the occupants."
Despite having four seats, the always silver-colored Super Beetle was not really an everyday car, but the small number of units and the distance to the large series - the V6 was only available in the RSI - make it a classic pearl of the future. The value is still between 25,000 and 45,000 euros, which is more or less significantly below the original price at the time, but whether it will stay that way ...
