A link to the past - Alfa Romeo Giulietta
11/11/2013
Alfa Romeo has just presented the 2014 Giulietta model and has not missed the opportunity to remind us of its own brand tradition. In the advertising film, which can currently be seen on various television stations, a Giulietta Sprint Veloce drives across the screen (albeit briefly), followed by the current model.
In fact, the current Giulietta is a third-generation model that has been on the market since 2010. To find its namesake predecessor, you have to look almost 40 years into the past, as the Type 116 was built from 1977 to 1985; the second Giulietta generation had rear-wheel drive and a transaxle configuration.
The original Giulietta was launched in 1954, almost 60 years ago. The first generation, built according to the standard design (engine at the front, drive at the rear), was sold for ten years.
And in addition to the Sprint coupé designed by Felice Boano, there was of course (from 1955) also a four-door saloon (Berlina) and this design was ultimately available in all three generations.
Visually, the three model generations could not be more different. However, the latest version also impresses with its attractive design and advanced technology, even if the classic twin-camshaft engine with its hearty pronunciation is of course no longer part of the equipment.
