Contrasts at Retro Classics
03/17/2014
Visitors to this year's Retro Classics in Stuttgart were particularly struck by the contrasts on display. Dealers and clubs were happy to position unrestored finds next to classics in mint condition.
Another contrast at trade fairs is the coexistence of super classics with former bread and butter cars, which today can often compete with the 300 SLs of this world in terms of exclusivity.
In Stuttgart, there was also the classic car-young car-neoclassic contrast, because in addition to vehicles that were over 100 years old in some cases, youngtimers and even new cars, so-called future classics, also took up a considerable amount of space.
And the price spectrum was also considerable. While a Carrera RS replica can be had for just over 30,000 euros, high-priced classics were on offer with seven-figure price tags.
We spotted a particularly interesting combination at the Allianz stand. There was a genuine Datsun 1600 Fairlady from the sixties next to a Maserati 300 S Recreation and a Westfielt Eleven, which could be seen as a replica of the Lotus 11.
The visitors don't seem to mind these contrasts, on the contrary, they are actually the salt in the soup that makes a visit to the fair entertaining and amusing.
