Once upon a time ... the triangular window

Let's remember! Decades ago, many cars did not have one window pane on the front doors, but two. A so-called triangular window was installed at the front of the door.
In many cases, this additional window could be swung out separately, sometimes even controlled by a rotary knob or, as in the VW Beetle (pictured), simply by hand. In this way, the air flow could be directed into the interior as desired and the climate in the car could be adjusted.
A practical thing. But at some point, the triangular windows had to give way to changing tastes, increased comfort expectations, cost-cutting programs and the merciless laws of aerodynamics. What a pity!
