An unusual Peugeot "Special" from "Caruna"
Last weekend, some visitors to the Dolder Classics noticed a Peugeot that seemed to be somewhat different from its peers. The person responsible for the redesign was also pointed out in various places: Caruna.
Behind the Spanish-sounding name "Caruna" is a bodywork company from Spreitenbach (Canton Aargau, Switzerland). The artificial name stands for "CARosserien Und NeuAnfertigungen" (bodywork and new production) and this is exactly what the enterprising company did.
It also attracted attention with a whole series of special creations. For example, there was the Pontiac Firebird Cabriolet, the Datsun 180 B SSS Cabriolet, the Citroën CX with a large tailgate, an adventurous-looking Caruna Spyder, a coupé with a Porsche 2.7-litre rear engine and, of course, the better-known conversions of Mercedes-Benz S-Class saloons into four-door convertibles.
The Peugeot 504 Targa Caruna was a one-off. Apparently, the original owner of the V6 convertible had the new car with just 100 km on the clock modified to his own specifications in 1976. The Peugeot was given a targa roof (the rear window could also be removed) and differently designed front and rear elements. While the front headlights came from a Fiat, the rear lights were taken from the Ferrari spare parts shelf (they were also used on the Ferrari 308 GTB, among others).
Today, around 35 years after its creation, the car is still in its original condition and is also driven and shown.
