Stirling Moss and the Heinkel cabin
05/09/2013
One usually imagines racing luminaries like Stirling Moss in a sleek sports car in the style of a Ferrari 250 GT or Maserati 3500 GT. But the racing drivers of yesteryear often drove inexpensive vehicles themselves and Stirling Moss was obviously fond of the Heinkel cabin in the early sixties.
In any case, he chauffeured his fiancée Katie Molson to church in it in 1961 to rehearse their upcoming wedding.
But a mishap occurred on the way: a delivery van hit the Heinkel. The accident was not too bad, at least Stirling Moss was quoted in the press at the time as saying: "Nobody was hurt and the damage is negligible, the impact was so minor that there was only just a dent in the side."
With a little delay, the wedding rehearsal was able to take place after all.
We have just published a comprehensive report on the Heinkel cabin .
