When speeds were still recommended

Hardly anyone remembers these signs that were erected on the slowly growing Swiss highway network in the mid-sixties. They were blue and suggested reasonable speeds to drivers, "80-120 km/h" or "70-100 km/h" depending on the terrain and degree of difficulty.
Anyone who wanted to was allowed to drive faster, because in 1965 there was still no prescribed maximum speed limit for the highways in Switzerland.
However, very few people were able to take advantage of this freedom, as a Beetle could only manage 120 km/h (with tailwind) and an R4 or 2 CV not even that much. In addition, the highways were not continuous in any way, so the free maximum speed was soon ended by the next town entrance.
