Who knows this car?

Time and again, when searching through old photo collections and archives, we discover pictures that cannot be identified straight away. In most cases, certain information is available, but details and captions are missing. If even extensive research doesn't turn up anything that helps to identify a depicted wagon, for example, we have to capitulate. A picture without complete labeling, i.e. with make, type, year and other details, is quickly lost in an online archive and no one will ever be able to find it again. So we often decide not to digitize them and include them in the Zwischengas photo archive.
However, we are also aware that there are many experts among our readers who may know more about such vehicles or were even at the scene of the event themselves and could report from memory. In order to tap into this knowledge, we now want to publish a picture from time to time and see if anyone can help.
We'll start with a black and white picture, probably taken at the Geneva Motor Show in 1959, showing a special body of Italian origin.
Who knows this car? What is the technical basis? What was made of it?
Anyone who can say something about it should simply enter a comment and perhaps this comment will help to generate other comments and in the end the whole history of the car will be revealed. At least that's what we hope. No sooner said than done ....
