Scarfiotti's Dino 206 S back on the Gaisberg
06/09/2012
It was 37 years ago, which is no occasion for an anniversary. But it is something unique! Because this year's Gaisberg race will be contested by a car that took part once before in 1965 under Scarfiotti.
Back then, European Hillclimb Champion Scarfiotti was not the fastest, not least because of the precarious weather conditions, but he still finished fifth behind three Porsche 904 GTSs (Weber, Greger, Stommelen) and Mitter's Porsche Bergspider.
It is interesting to note that the car had an open spider body at the time, one of several forms in which the first Dino works prototype appeared. In the classification, the car was listed as the Dino 2000. The Dino was later converted back into a coupé and has since been restored twice. Even today, the prototype still shows visual differences to the later small series.
Inside, the sports car shows a rich racing life, the American rev counter is just one indication of this.
We recently published an extensive article about the Dino 206 S on Zwischengas, and a detailed report on the Gaisberg race will be published soon.
