Nelson Piquet and his former team members
A week ago at the Brazilian GP in Interlagos, Nelson Piquet did some demo laps in the Brabham BT49 in which he won the 1981 world title.
During this demonstration drive , he also met some of his team members from the past. After the end of the Brabham team, the then Brabham team owner Bernie Ecclestone helped practically all of the crew members who had become unemployed to find new jobs, sometimes in completely different roles.
In the picture we see from left to right: Nigel de Strajter, who at the time was in charge of Nelson's car as a mechanic and now works at FOM, where he is responsible for TV, Nelson Piquet in the car, then Herbie Blash, former team manager and now assistant race director, and finally Charlie Whiting, the current Formula 1 race director, who was Piquet's chief mechanic many years ago. Only Bernie Ecclestone himself is missing from the picture, as he was unfortunately untraceable at the time the photo was taken.
