The first driver's license

The world's first driver's license was issued on August 1, 1888 with the following words:
"Mr. Benz, owner of the Rhein'sche Gasmotorenfabrik here, is granted permission until further notice to test drive his patented motor car on the roads and paths running through the districts of Mannheim, Sandhofen, Käferthal, Freudenheim, Ilvesheim, Schriesheim, Ladenburg, Neckarau, with the express notice that the entrepreneur is responsible for any damage caused to others by the use of the motor car."
