About the "makers" of Zwischengas - Daniel Reinhard (photographer and editor)
Two proverbs define my life: "You either have it or you don't."
At least I was born with it. I mean, of course, with gasoline in my blood. What's more, I have it in a high-octane and leaded state.
So I was born on August 27, 1960, am now married and the father of 2 children. After elementary school and a few years at grammar school, I attended a technical college for photography in Vienna.
The second proverb continues: "The apple doesn't fall far from the tree."
I started taking photographs in the Swiss Automobile Championship as early as 1976. How could it be otherwise when you are already the 3rd generation of photographers. I saw my first F1 GP in 1972, of course still sitting in the stands at the start-finish straight in Monaco, while my father captured the wild rain race, which was surprisingly won by Jean Pierre Beltoise in a BRM, on film for Automobil-Revue and Powerslide.
The 1979 British GP at Silverstone was not only the first F1 race I photographed, it also laid an important professional foundation. I soon attended all the European races and since 1987 I have been on the road for "Sport Auto" and "Auto, Motor und Sport", photographing all but 2 F1 races (one Indy 500 instead of the Mexican GP and the cancellation of the San Marino GP due to a cruciate ligament operation) and hopefully I will be able to celebrate my 500th GP appearance at the end of 2012.
Me and the car, eternal love. Even at grammar school, drawing cars was more important than lessons. My father, who started taking motorsport pictures as early as 1946, naturally exposed me to some form of motorsport every day. As he was also a great lover of historic vehicles, we owned our own classic cars from an early age. Of course, even in my youth, the current super sports cars were more important than the oldies. I first had to learn to appreciate the importance of earlier vehicles. As a proud "911 turbo" owner, however, I was suddenly drawn more and more to pre-war cars. I remember exactly how I was always bored waiting for the younger cars at the classic car events and didn't have anything to do with the "old cars" until I suddenly got stuck with a Bugatti 35B. The car completely captivated me. The Porsche was sold and a good 10 years later I was finally able to fulfill my dream: A supercharged MG from the 1930s.
Bruno and I have known each other since we were at grammar school together. Even back then, he accompanied me to various events from time to time. Our ever-growing attachment to historic cars and our dissatisfaction with the classic car platforms on the Internet gave us the idea of creating something of our own. As we also complement each other very well professionally, we can only benefit from each other.
Simple operation and a good design on the screen, as well as perfect research at a high level, urgently need to be framed by great image material. With "Zwischengas", we have created a basis for using our great love of the historic automobile professionally.
