Austin Healey auctioned for a seven-figure sum
12/10/2011
On the occasion of Mercedes-Benz World, Bonhams auctioned a 1953 Austin Healey, a competition car with 100 S specification, on December 1, 2011. The car is said to have taken part in Le Mans, Sebring, the Carrera Panamericana and Bahamas Speed Week and, as an early prototype and works car, is probably one of the most sought-after Healeys ever, but even then £843,000 (or CHF 1,206,500, or €976,500, in each case including surcharges/commissions) seems to be an impressive price. Once again, it shows that racing history is worth more than condition. The car was described as a "barn find ".
Apparently, the Healey was bought by a Swiss collector who wants to enter the car in the Le Mans Classic.
Incidentally, it is rumored that the car was worth £ 155 to the new owner when it changed hands for the last time in 1969. Well, this return is convincing, because the buyer probably didn't have to invest much over the years.
