More powerful Austin Healey 3000 - Closed until Feb. 27, 1964 24:00 hrs
This press photo from BMC had already been embargoed until February 27, 1964 at midnight!
What does that mean exactly? Cars always have to be photographed on a secret mission before they are presented. In the last century, of course, the pictures had to be sent to the media by post in good time to enable publication on the day of the presentation. Now, however, it had to be ensured that no magazine published the new/modified car before its official presentation. This was done by means of "embargo periods", which were usually affixed to the press releases and photos.
Even today, embargo periods are still used. Only in the Internet age, everything works a little more simply. The e-mails with the photos can be sent at exactly the right time. Depending on the editorial deadline of the individual magazine, this happens sooner or later. In the case of print media, this actually eliminates the possibility of any mishandling. The only danger lurks in the Internet channels, as there is still a risk of premature disclosure.
