How do we get all the luggage into the Beetle?

In the days when the best-selling everyday vehicle had the engine in the rear and the trunk in the front, you struggled almost every day or at the latest before a big weekend trip with the problem of fitting lots of things into a small storage space that still had to be shared with the fuel tank and spare wheel.
The young lady in the picture also seems to be dealing with this problem. The later Beetles actually offered a lot more here ...
