The charm of photos from past car shows
While preparing for an upcoming article about past Geneva Motor Shows, I looked through countless pictures. And I couldn't escape the charm of these photos .
Photographs of exhibitions rarely meet high artistic standards, usually the light, the distance to the object and also the shooting angle can only be adjusted slightly, you have to live with what is possible on site. Nevertheless, the photographs from earlier car exhibitions are incredibly appealing. They show a wide range of cars in their original condition and in direct competition with each other. They show how visitors of the time interacted with the cars and they show the vehicles in a décor typical of the period. This was absolutely minimalist in the 1950s and 1960s and cannot be compared with the laser projections, moving images, watercourses in the background and other stand design elements of today. The effect is incredibly appealing and authentic.
Incidentally, the picture above shows the impressive Lincoln Continental at the 1961 Geneva Motor Show.
