We have already repeatedly reported on how strongly the VW Beetle shaped the street scene of the 1960s and that hardly anyone knows anyone who did not own a VW Beetle. And the Beetle was the basis for a whole range of sports cars (e.g. Enzmann), leisure vehicles (e.g. Buggy) and even racing cars (e.g. Formula V).
However, using the Beetle as a replacement for a motorboat to go water skiing seems to have been a special application. Whether it worked is doubtful, but it was a Beetle again and not a Dodge, Mercedes or Renault pulling the friendly woman on the skis.
