The facsimile views on zwischengas.com
01/19/2011
Many of the contents stored on zwischengas.com are so-called facsimiles, i.e. 1:1 reproductions of original documents such as newspaper pages, user manuals, race results, magazine pages, sales brochures etc.. These are stored by zwischengas.com in high quality and offered in different views, each of which has its advantages and disadvantages.
The normal view (500 pixels wide)
The normal view is ideal for a quick overview of a newspaper page, for example. You can see all the main content at a glance and decide whether the page is relevant. This view is not suitable for reading the content in detail. However, this view is the easiest way to navigate within the newspaper archive. And, scrolling can be done here by clicking on the newspaper page (forward) or the commands on the left (front page/next page). The position of these navigation links does not change from page to page, making it possible to browse quickly . Thanks to the low resolution, the pages can be transferred quite quickly (e.g. in less than 1 second) depending on the bandwidth.
The large view (full width, 800 pixels wide)
The large view is easier to read. As the title says, more width is used here and newspaper pages, for example, are still displayed clearly and legibly. The navigation functions described above for the normal view are also available in the large view, but are arranged horizontally at the top. Here too, you can scroll forwards by clicking on the facsimile page displayed. With the somewhat longer transfer time per page combined with relatively good readability, this display is a good compromise and suitable for detailed browsing through a newspaper. However, readability also depends heavily on the screen hardware used. The use of a sharp 24-inch LCD monitor, for example, is pleasant.
The original file (PDF)
The PDF page, which is saved with every facsimile, naturally offers optimum readability, but in most cases is only available to Premium members. The PDF version is recommended if an entire article is to be read or a printout is required. However, browsing through an entire newspaper should always be done on the basis of the normal view or the large view. Newspaper page facsimile PDF files quickly become quite large, which leads to increased loading times.
