Vehicle advertising from 1950 to 1980 - contemporary witnesses and changing tastes
Vehicle advertising and how it has changed over time and adapted to the tastes and preferences of consumers is an exciting chapter and an important cultural testimony to the history of our time. There are vast amounts of advertising illustrations stored in various places on Zwischengas, but we are in the process of preparing them in an easily usable form. As a foretaste, here are a few examples illustrating the period 1950 to 1980:
This is a Jaguar advertisement from 1950.
This is how Mercedes-Benz advertised its 180 D, which boasted a standard consumption of just 6.3 liters per 100 km.
In 1959, Rover relied more heavily on the written word and had a great urge to communicate.
Volkswagen, or rather the Swiss importer AMAG, limited itself to the essentials in this VW advertisement from 1966.
At Citroën, you can feel the flower power generation in this advertising illustration from 1969.
With the Matra-Simca Bagheera, the main product advantages (3 seats next to each other, Maserati-like styling) were emphasized visually in 1974.
As early as 1980, BMW impressed with its consistent "corporate identity" and high-quality visual material.
However, this was only a foretaste of the large pool of advertising subjects on Zwischengas.
