... studying and designing mass production car bodies for years now, Giugiaro has thus preferred to reject the dream car for concrete reality. The engineering of the VW Porsche 914 is obviously an absolute guarantee of aproduction of exceptional performance. The Tapiro is built on the VW Porsche chassis: the wheelbase has been left unchanged while the track is broader only because the wheels are larger. Compared to the original dimensions, however, the prototype presents allround variations: height reduced by 110 mm; width increased by 100 mm; length increases by 75 mm (made up of an increase of 115 mm in the front overhang and a reduction of 40 mm in the rear). The Tapiro?s aggressive look comes from its penetrating profile and impressive fast back, both features which are now typical of racing cars. (The body sections have been rounded at the roof to achieve better highspeed performance). From the side, the design is wedgeshaped. From the top to the front end, segments fan out to create the mudguard crests, the waist line, the side grooving and the chassis base. The wedgeshaped appearance is enhanced by the very high backflung rooftotail union while the striking fanout lines help to break up and lighten the heavy back volume.
