FOR RELEASE APRIL 11, I960 (1867) from CHEVROLET MOTOR DIVISION General Motors Corporation General Motors Building Detroit 2, Michigan TRinity 3-7200 23. ¥. &* A Chevrolet Corvette which blends an explosive sports car image with unusual driving safety advantages makes its bow at the International Auto Show in New York, The car was designed by William L. Mitchell, vice president in charge of General MDtors Styling, and is the latest in a line of experimental vehicles by which Chevrolet tests the practicality of new ideas. It is known as the XP-700 Corvette. Although chassis components are production built, the low hood overhang of the fiber glass body, broad frontal air scoops, transparent passenger canopy and snubbed rear quarters impart a flavor of the most advanced sports cars. Significant of innovations that may influence future automobiles is the treatment of the "bubble top" for elimination of glare, circulation venting system and a periscopetype rear view mirror which provides a completely unobstructed view of the road behind. Interior and exterior are colored in pearlescent silver. Front fender air scoops for added brake cooling and "floating" grille guard are other XP-700 highspots.
