(Soon) forgotten cars from movies - the Lagonda in "Seven Dials"
The fact that Agatha Christie's novels are still being made into films today is not a matter of course; after all, the lady died almost exactly 50 years ago. The mystery novel "The Seven Dials Mistery" was published in 1929, so it is also quite old.
Nevertheless, the cinematic adaptation in the form of a thoroughly entertaining and exciting series went live on Netflix a good two weeks ago, following the release of a film based on the Agatha Christie book over 40 years ago.
A Lagonda plays a not insignificant role in this new three-parter, which the young lead actress Mia McKenna-Bruce (as Lady Eileen "Bundle" Brent) drives heartily through the English countryside and towns on several occasions.
On the relevant Internet forums, however, there is some speculation as to whether the petite lady was really able to handle the two-liter pre-war Lagonda, or whether a few film tricks and stunt drivers helped to shoot the scenes.
Incidentally, the 1930 Lagonda 2-Litre Low Chassis Supercharged used was offered on the trading platform "car and classics" some time ago, but was apparently sold. Less than a hundred examples of this pretty car (out of 1340 cars built) are said to have survived.
The car, which apparently drove without a supercharger despite its designation, was quite convincing in its film appearance.
