It's full of fat - man!

The season will soon be starting again. And when the days get warmer, it's a bit more pleasant to work in the workshop. Lubrication is always a big issue. Properly winterized, all grease nipples would have already received a good portion of grease in the autumn. In reality, however, things look a little different...
However, as the cars have not been driven and it should actually be dry in my windy shed, there can't have been too much mischief if the freshest load of grease hasn't gotten between all these otherwise rubbing parts of my cars.
Maybe this year I'll even take the trouble to dismantle this or that part: the cover under the footwell of the Bulli, for example, so that I'm not surprised again with the findings that can be seen in these pictures. Unfortunately, I have never paid any attention to the clutch cable since I bought the car in 1991. After more than 30 years, it has been worked through. No, the notches to the left and right of the bell crank shouldn't be there either. The rusty thing would actually be a small bolt that is pushed through and secured with the clip, the remains of which are still attached. The clip was torn off because at some point the whole thing could no longer turn, but the two eyes at the end of the cable were completely worn through. A little care years ago would have prevented this, but I was also fascinated by the consequence of the lack of lubrication. A neat job, done to the bitter end, you could say. I don't know how many times I had to engage and disengage the clutch, but it must have been a few thousand.
When replacing the whole thing, I packed the pedals and the lever in question thickly with ointment - in the hope that there will still be some of it left when I remove this cover again soon. I'm really looking forward to it.
