Better to wash by hand (question of the month)
10/06/2025
In the past, people used to look after their (old) car at home in front of the door. But not everyone has their own house and a suitable forecourt. What's more, washing outside is no longer so easy due to increasingly restrictive regulations, so you have to look for alternatives away from home.
We wanted to know from Zwischengas readers what method they use to maintain their classic or vintage car. The "question of the month"was therefore: How do you wash your old car?
The answer is pretty unanimous: over 82% of the almost 360 readers who responded wash their cars by hand themselves. More than half of them (43.5% in absolute terms) do this with a sponge and shampoo on private property, while the rest (38.8%) use public self-wash facilities.
Only 5.3 % of readers state that they use automatic car washes to clean their classic cars, while a further 7.6 % have no clear preference and either wash their car in a car wash or themselves.
4.8% were unable to answer any of the questions.
Graphically, the result looks like this:
The next "question of the month" has already been posed. This time we want to know whether you should remove a retrofitted sunroof from a classic/young car in order to preserve its originality.
And of course you can still look up all previous "Questions of the week and month" in the related topic channel.
