Clean car - happy driver
10/13/2025
When the farmers are harvesting with their heavy, twin-wheeled Lamborghini tractors, the road quickly becomes completely covered in dirt. We come back from the photo shoot (for the 2026 annual magazine ) with the clean Toyota and Lexus and have to turn back and forth around the dirt to get the two cars home reasonably clean.
Then there was the fountain, with enough space around it where a quick wash would actually have been possible, but the sign quickly put a stop to any thoughts.
This reminded me of times gone by when I used to wash my father's cars right next to the house. A water connection in our double garage with a long hose made this possible. The foamed dirty water went through the manhole cover into the waste water. Nobody was bothered by this until it was suddenly banned.
One wash of our Mercedes-Benz 190 SL probably even saved my left leg.... Years of pain in my leg could not be medically diagnosed at the time. While washing the car in the summer of 1978, I bumped into the bumper and my eyes immediately went black. A passer-by saw me lying soaking wet next to the car with a hose spraying water in my hand and alerted my parents. I was quickly back at the doctor's, then even more quickly at the hospital, where the tumor, which had grown to around four centimetres, was finally found on my shin bone. It was slowly but surely eating its way through the bone. Dr. Grass, the head physician at the time, managed the operation at short notice in Stans Hospital perfectly; the tumor was not malignant and I am still alive today, even without the dreaded prosthesis.
