Precisely fitting mirror

It's really fascinating to see what ideas imaginative car manufacturers come up with time and again. One example of this is the interior mirror in the Alfa Romeo GTV6. In principle, it has a trapezoidal shape that tapers towards the bottom.
At first you wonder why this is the case. Until you look from the driver's seat via the mirror to the rear window and notice that it fits exactly into the rear-view mirror. Hardly a centimeter is wasted (the photo above does not show this perfectly).
In the past, when mirrors were just mirrors, car manufacturers also designed other refinements. For example, in some convertibles with a high soft top, the mirror can be moved upwards and rotated so that you can practically look back over the windshield.
