When car brochures were still really informative
08/12/2025
Apart from the fact that you hardly ever get car brochures on paper these days, they used to be much more interesting and you could still learn a lot by studying them.
Take, for example, the sales brochure for the Porsche 944 from 1983. 36 pages long, the Porsche marketing people explain why you should buy this four-cylinder coupé.
Of course, the car is shown from all sides, the interior is explained and the goodies are explained.
But the design process is also documented.
The view out of the car is illustrated.
Technology is explained with comprehensible illustrations.
The functioning of the suspensions is communicated.
The development process is shown.
There are even pictures and findings from the crash tests.
And production and quality assurance are explained to the reader.
There is even space for a section on future research, even if there is no picture of the 995 mentioned, which we are happy to provide here. At the time, the 995 was intended to show what further development possibilities still lay dormant in the 924/944, from better aerodynamics and lower noise levels to greater safety.
The final stage is the final inspection (picture above).
Yes, the brochure is really informative, of course you can look at it in the Zwischengas archive, as well as the overview of the colors and interior equipment at that time . We published these documents on the occasion of the publication of the comparison between the Porsche 944 and the Alfa Romeo GTV6.
