After one year at the latest, stand damage is to be expected (question of the month)
Cars are like people: If you don't move for too long, at some point you can no longer move. In the classic car scene, "damage" is therefore almost as ubiquitous as rust. Everyone fears it and it can never be completely prevented. And as with rust, you never know exactly when and where it will occur. And as soon as the classic is due for a longer period, you wonder whether the first damage has already been done.
But how long can the period of downtime be before you really have to worry about damage? What is the opinion of classic car owners? To find out, we asked Zwischengas readers the following " question of the month" : How long do you think it will be before you can expect to see damage to your car?
Over 400 readers responded and just over sixty percent (60.3%) expect damage to occur after one year at the latest. Around half of them even assume that six months of standing will be enough to produce the first standing damage.
23.3% expect more than one to two years before the first damage occurs, and 11.3% expect more than two to five years.
While one percent fear standing damage after just one month, 1.5% expect the first damage to occur after 10 or more years.
And 3.8% did not find any of the proposed answers correct, perhaps because the issue needs to be considered in a more differentiated way.
