A very special Pontiac Firebird is wanted
02/27/2025
An Zwischengas reader asked us to help him find a vehicle. The car in question is a 1967 Pontiac Firebird 400, in which Engelbert Möll - known as an Abarth works driver who had a serious accident at Solitude in 1963 - competed in the Swiss championship. The reader, who already owns a Firebird with a similar history, is convinced that this Pontiac is still somewhere in a Swiss (?) garage without the owner knowing about the car's extraordinary history.
As already written, the Pontiac we are looking for is a Firebird 400 Coupé, the chassis number should be 223377U12XXXX or 223377U13XXXX, the first registration took place in May 1967 in Solothurn (SO 05.67).
The original color was burgundy red, the vinyl roof was black, the interior was covered with black leatherette. Numerous optional extras were on board, including the Hydra-Matic three-speed automatic transmission, power disc brakes, electric windows, power steering, rally dashboard, center console, rev counter, sports steering wheel, wide rally wheels, FM radio, etc.
As it was also an official delivery from GM Switzerland at the time, a second "General Motor Suisse SA" nameplate was affixed to the inner fender. Certain features of the Swiss conversion at the time (e.g. the additional reflectors in the rear bumper) could still be present today.
If a reader knows or even owns the car, we would be happy to put them in touch!
