The mystery of environmental pollution: solved!

This advertisement appeared in a car magazine in 1971:
A few years later, the rising oil price led to the worst economic crisis in the history of the Federal Republic of Germany. And the air was full of lead and soot, the rain was acidic. But now we know why: it was the two-stroke engines!
Those were also the years when this sticker appeared on a number of cars: "I wanted to buy a Lamborghini, but I couldn't say it".
Unfortunately, we will never know how many additional cars Lambordschini - sorry - Lamborghini (first production cars in 1964) would have sold.
Incidentally, there was not yet a Green Party in Germany, but it was not too surprising that one was founded in 1979...
And in 1986, Switzerland single-handedly introduced catalytic converters for new cars in Europe, followed by Germany in 1989. Some US states were pioneers with (unregulated) catalytic converters from 1974 onwards.
