Cultivated diversity in a historical dress
09/18/2022
The Goodwood Revival is probably the best historic racing event ever. And it is not easy to put into words why the British and the organizing team around the Duke of Richmond manage to put on such an interesting and impressive event year after year.
Everything is subordinated to time travel, with only a few details destroying the illusion of being transported back 50 or 70 years into the past. Even many of the racing drivers dispense with modern racing helmets and wear historic-looking open helmets and goggles. The spectators also dress in the style of the fifties or sixties, and mechanics and press people do the same.
Even the advertising displays and sponsors have to conform to this concept.
One of the success factors of the Revival is the interesting and, above all, well-stocked starting fields. A good example of this was the Madgwick Cup yesterday, Saturday, with an almost unbelievable variety of sports cars from 1948 to 1955 with engines of less than two liters. There were cars from Frazer Nash, Kieft, Veritas, Lotus, Tojeiro, Maserati, Osca, Porsche, Buckler, AC, Ermini and Cooper as well as various MG specials, each car worthy of a report in itself!
The line-up of presentation runs is almost even more impressive. In 2022, Graham Hill will be honored with a large number of his cars, celebrating 75 years of Ferrari with an almost unbelievable selection of cars from Maranello. For many fans, however, the highlight is likely to be the more than 130 Austin Sevens that will cruise around the circuit to mark the 100th birthday of this early British Volkswagen.
There is something for everyone at the Goodwood Revival. Those who have had enough of racing can also watch old films or watch an auction.
If you want to get an impression yourself but can't be there, we recommend the live stream on YouTube . This direct broadcast alone has a surprising amount of charm.
P.S. Of course, we will also be bringing you a detailed report on the 2022 edition of the Goodwood Revival in a few days' time.
