Electrifying a classic car destroys its value (question of the week)
More and more suppliers are converting classic cars into electric cars. Thanks to standard components, prices are falling and in many cases the cars can even be dismantled later.
More and more owners of classic cars therefore see electrification as the best chance of still being able to drive their beloved car on public roads in the future.
But will this classic car retain its value or even increase in value as a result of the conversion? We wanted to find out from Zwischengas readers, so we posed the following " question of the week" : Can an electrified classic car be worth more than an original classic car?
The answers were clear. 80.2% of the 435 respondents are convinced that such a heavily modified classic car will always be worth less than a classic car in its original condition.
However, 13.3% could imagine that increasing future-proofing and everyday usability could at least have a value-retaining effect.
Finally, 4.4% believe that the electrified classic car has a chance of increasing in value if the technology can be dismantled.
2.1% did not find any of the answers correct.
So there is a great deal of skepticism about converting a classic car with a combustion engine to electric drive.
