Would you have recognized him?

You probably didn't recognize the car pictured, because this Skoda was never produced. At that time, almost exactly 50 years ago, it was reported as the "Skoda first king".
The Automobil Revue wrote at the time:
"Czechoslovakia is making great efforts not to lose touch with the West. This prototype with a 1.5-liter engine was built by Skoda and assembled by Vignale in Turin. The car was to be launched on the market in two- and four-door versions."
Well, nothing came of it and today you have to marvel at the very low waistline, because these high side windows would hardly have found room in the doors when they were rolled down. However, Skoda then built models such as the 100/110, which were much more traditional, but also found comparatively little favor in the West.
It would be decades before Skoda cars enjoyed the recognition in this country that they enjoy today (thanks to Volkswagen).
