Everyone needs a police car
02/11/2018
"Everybody needs a police car," said the Bonhams auctioneer on Thursday, February 8, 2018, at an early hour when a blue Renault 4 came under the hammer after almost 100 cars.
It was not a normal R4 version, but a rare Sinpar 4x4 version that had actually served the French "Genamerie" well around the Col de Tende in the south of France. An Italian enthusiast had completely restored the car, which was built in 1986, and some of the auction visitors were able to see this in detail.
The car with folding roof was estimated at EUR 25,000 to 30,000, and the highest bid was at the upper end of the estimate, which made the buyer an impressive EUR 34,500 poorer, including surcharge/commission, but richer by a Renault 4 that not everyone has, but probably almost everyone has seen, after all, the R4 was often seen in films as a police car.
In view of the wintry weather conditions in Paris, the local gendarmerie would certainly have been well served with the R4 4x4 in February 2018. A detailed report on the Bonhams upgrade will follow shortly.
