Suitably dressed - Mercedes-Benz 190 SL ready for winter sports
The people responsible for the 190-SL Club's stand at the Rétromobile probably never imagined that their theme would be much more appropriate to the current weather conditions in Paris than is normally the case. After all, the city on the Seine has had more snowfall in the last few days than in the last few decades. And there would certainly have been enough snow outside to put the 190 SL in a real winter mood. In the halls, of course, absorbent cotton was more temperature-proof.
After all, the Mercedes was even fitted with snow chains at the front and rear and the fact that these were probably much more modern than the car can certainly be held against the club people. The skis mounted on the hardtop certainly looked authentic enough, as you can see in the pictures taken by Daniel Reinhard.
Winter scenes are always popular with clubs at motor shows, and you see them again and again at German motor shows, perhaps because they represent such a great contrast to the modern use of a classic car. In any case, we can't remember the last time we saw a 190 SL with skis on in the wild ...
The comprehensive report on the Rétromobile in Paris and the surrounding auctions will follow in the next few days.
