Classic pearls of the future - VW Golf R32 (V)
07/18/2016
The Golf V, the fifth version of Volkswagen 's popular rear-engined hatchback , was certainly not the most popular variant. That is why this model series was only built for a comparatively short time, i.e. five years. It came onto the market in 2003, followed two years later by the R32 variant, just like its predecessor.
The Golf R32 had the 3.2-liter V6 with now 250 hp (9 hp more power than its predecessor) under the hood, whose power was transmitted to the road via all four (wide) wheels. Gear changes were manual or, for an extra charge, with DSG. The sprint from 0 to 100 km/h was possible in just over six seconds and the top speed was communicated as 250 km/h.
Like its predecessor, the R32 was extensively equipped and had particularly sporty bucket seats.
However, this alone would probably not make it a classic pearl, especially as the Golf V was certainly not the most visually attractive of all Golfs.
However, the Golf V R32 was the last of its kind, as its successors were powered by four-cylinder turbo engines and, as is well known, these could not compete acoustically with the six-cylinder naturally aspirated engine. This was also due to the fact that the exhaust system of the Golf V R32 had to dig deep into the box of tricks.
