Driving pleasure doesn't really have anything to do with horsepower
If car advertising is to be believed, the more power a car's engine develops, the more fun it seems to be to drive. But sometimes it is precisely the least powerful cars that are the most fun to drive.
We have recently had the opportunity to "experience" this antithesis several times: for example in the Renault 4 CV, which with its 3/4 liter displacement delivers a good 20 hp and still provides a lot of pleasure behind the wheel. Or just the other day in the Citroën Méhari, which with 602 cm3 "heaves" just 29 hp onto the drive wheels and still ensures happy smiling faces for the crew ...
You have to wonder how the owners of super-powerful sports cars and all-wheel-drive saloons manage to enjoy driving in normal road traffic today, as each of the six, seven or eight gears is probably enough to get rid of hundreds of francs or euros at the next speed camera.
Of course, Méhari and co. do not get up the next slope as easily as the modern and highly efficient torque giants, but despite downshifting to second gear, hardly any time is lost in the Renault "Heck" or Citroën Méhari, only the convoy behind may be a little frustrated that their horsepower is wasted ...
