The great challenge of Willy Peter Dätwyler's Alfa Romeo 412
There were only four Alfa Romeo 412s with supercharged engines. Vittorio Jano had developed the twelve-cylinder engine and Willy Peter Dätwyler drove one of these fabulous sports cars with great skill.
But what if a big Daetwyler fan wanted to rebuild the car that Willy Peter drove with some success after the war?
Well, the good news is that we know where most of the components are. The car itself, largely preserved but without the original engine and probably re-bodied according to an idea by Giovanni Michelotti, will be in the Schlumpf Museum.
However, the engine was removed after its active racing days and then probably powered a ship on Lake Zurich, albeit without a compressor. The ship sank and is probably still lying on the bottom somewhere, at least that's the story. With a little patience and diving skills, the engine could be raised.
The only thing missing is the compressor, which still exists. The current owner could imagine selling this rare piece to a worthy buyer ...
