Always drive on the right on the highway

Not everything was better 50 years ago. Anyone who is annoyed by stubborn left-hand drivers today should take a look at the highway scene shown here from 1962. We are observing a two-lane, unrestricted highway in the south of Germany.
A VW Beetle has just "thundered past", followed by a Union two-stroke car, then a Mercedes Benz 190 and an Opel, none of which are racing cars. Nevertheless, they are all driving in the left lane, even though there is nothing to overtake. But perhaps a truck is looming on the horizon in the right-hand lane or a cab scooter is zooming along in the distance ...
