Enough or too much patina?
02/07/2013
Patina is very popular, as is originality. If you need further proof, you can take a look at the results of the January auctions in Scottsdale, where two Lancia Aurelia Spiders, one in condition 2+ and one in condition 4, achieved the same price. Whether it works the same way in Europe will become clear today and tomorrow when Bonhams and Artcurial announce their offers in Paris.
Yesterday, the Bonhams lots at the Grand Palais could be viewed in detail and it became apparent that quite a few vehicles far removed from concours condition were going under the hammer. While some are probably talking about restoration objects, others are raving about unadulterated patina.
It will definitely be interesting at the auction. Will the customers give priority to the beautifully restored Graber Talbot or the unrestored Graber Bentley, which shows massive signs of wear and tear? (Interior, picture above)
Or will the Talbot-Lago T150C from 1938 (picture below) attract even higher bids?
