The coming and going of brand trophies

The one-make cup celebrated its premiere in 1966 with the "Renault Gordini Cup", in which the rear-wheel drive Renault R8 Gordini was used.
Since then, different brands have repeatedly competed for the trophy. The Porsche Cup is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. The Porsche Supercup was added to the supporting program as the bigger brother of the Carrera Cup in F1 races.
In addition, the Renault Cups have existed for years with a wide variety of models: R8 Gordini Cup, R5 Cup, R5 Turbo Cup, Alpine Cup, Spider Cup, Megane Cup etc. The idea behind the one-make cup has always been to select the best driver regardless of the material.
In 1982, three different one-make cup races were held as part of the Swiss Championship on the Whitsun weekend in Zeltweg. Whether R5, Golf or Mazda Cup, all ended with a winner and there were full starting fields everywhere!
We have almost forgotten the time when the Swiss Championship still chose its champions on various circuits in nearby countries. Drivers and racing cars were transported directly from Switzerland to Zeltweg on special trains (!). There was always a great party on the train and in the end it was always a successful weekend to remember.
