Summary
With the A112 Abarth, the car manufacturer Autobianchi, which operated under Fiat/Lancia control, launched a sporty small car that could give even much more powerful sports cars a hard time on narrow roads. In the city, the A112 was almost unbeatable anyway and it was so good that it was built largely unchanged for around 17 years. During these years, its fan base grew steadily, which is why the Italian small car is now a sought-after classic car. This driving report is about a late Lancia Autobianchi A112 Abarth 70 HP and tells the whole story of the model series, illustrated with historical and current pictures, sales literature and supplemented by a sound sample.

If the Autobianchi A112 had not existed, not many people today would remember this Italian brand, which was founded in 1955 by the bicycle and motorcycle manufacturer Bianchi together with Fiat and Pirelli. Although some innovative and attractive cars, including the Bianchina, the Stellina and the Primula, were put into production over the course of two decades, they met with comparatively little interest in this country. This was completely different with the A112 (or A 112). It was also loved in German-speaking countries. And has been for many years and still is today. In 1967, Autobianchi went completely to Fiat, but even before that, the Fiat Group had often used the small car company to occupy new niches or test future-oriented vehicle concepts. The Autobianchi Primula featured a transverse front engine with front-wheel drive as early as 1964, and the Fiat 128 inherited the concept from 1969.
