It has "been five 3rears in the making and has been an exciting car to design and to develop. The following notes may help to explain the thinking behind the design of the finished product. RMRJ3NGINE, Perhaps the most fundamental problem was the siting of the engine. Our studies indicated quite clearly that a compact enginecumtransmission unit was the correct solution for this type of car in order to achieve the roomiest, least complicated design for the given overall size incorporating modern trends and meeting a tighttarget selling price* Having considered these implications, we decided for many reasons to put the engine at the rear. It gave us the following advantages: 1 Near ideal weight distribution, subject to the minimum of variation under changing load conditions. 2. Good traction on slippery roads and gradients, as acceleration and hill climbing load the rear end. 3. More even distribution of braking power between front and rear wheels - and better tyrewear balance than front engine, front wheel drive, v/here front wheels take all the power and nearly all the braking. ...Quelle:Archiv
