It is designed for the track rather than for high speed touring. Features and points of technical interest are:- A11 constant mesh Engine - six cylinders: 180 b.h.p, at 5500 r.p.m.; 2922 ccs,(178,32 cu.ins.) capacity; 8*5°.l compression ratio. Valve ports polished and matched. Twin overhead highlift competition camshafts actuate direct—attack valve mechanism (no tappets to be adjusted). Polished and balanced connecting rods. Oil cooler built into water radiator. Three horizontal dual choke Solex carburettors - six intakes, Threegallon petrol reserve. Highclamping pressure "Racing" clutch balanced with flywheel, Hydraulicallyoperated withdrawal mechanism, gives light and smooth operation. 4-speed synchromesh David Brown gearbox, gears on needle rollers. Overall gear ratios with standard 3.73:1 axle :- 3.73^ 4.69, 6.97 and 10,88: 1 (Reverse 10.88:1), Alternative axles at extra charge: 3.0, 3.27, 3.54, 3.91 and 4.5:1 David Brown spiral bevel final drive. Rack and pinion steering. Special wheel with duralumin spokes and centre and polished hard wood rim. Specially designed Girling hydraulic brakes (exclusive to the DB3S). Alfin bimetal drums.
