... hese are some of the features that help to make driving so pleasant and carefree. Gear changing is simple. Vauxhall controlled synchromesh makes every change expertly slick and silent. Whereas ordinary synchromesh will assist the driver to make a good gear change, the Vauxhall controlled system makes a bad change impossible. All forward gears are helically cut for silence. Braking is hydraulic. The brakes are smooth and powerful and operate with light pedal pressure (the latter an important point for lady drivers). Brake adjustment is simplicity itself—just a matter of turning a ratchet with a screwdriver. The handbrake lever is to the right of the driver under the instrument panel. It is inverted and, as will be seen in the top photograph, is easily reached without stretching. The gear lever is mounted well forward (see lower photo) leaving the front compartment practically free o f obstruction, so that the driver may enter or leave by either door. “Firsttime starting” is assured in wintry weather. A combined throttle and choke control sets both choke and throttle in the right positions for quick starting. The windscreen wiper has tandem blades which wipe a wide area of the windscreen.
