... P E C I F I C A T I O N — c o n t i n u e d BRAKING The fourwheel brake system of the “ Silver W raith ” is of special interest, operation being hydraulic in fron t and mechanical at the rear. Both sets are operated through the standard Rolls- Royce Servodrive from the gearbox, which multiplies the light pressure applied to the brake pedal and is equally effective for both forward and backward m ovem ent of the car. This principle of braking ensures high efficiency with light operation and even application on all four wheels. The hand brake operates on the rear wheels. SUSPENSION A new developm ent on the “ Silver W raith ” is the fron t suspension, in which each wheel is independently controlled by helical springs in conjunction with wishbone linkage and hydraulic dampers. The links are lengthened to allow extensive use of rubber bushes to obtain insulation from road noises and shocks. Rear suspension is by long, semielliptic, leaf springs with hydraulic shock dampers of special Rolls-Royce design and manufacture, with overriding hand control by lever on the steering wheel. The springs are fully lubricated from the central chassis lubrication system and enclosed in leather gaiters.
